This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300SL 24-Valve is probably as good as they get. The exterior is virtually unmarked and the interior shows little evidence that it’s 32 years old. It has covered just 68,000 miles and this is supported by a full book pack and a 100 plus page lever arch folder of service history. It is now Irish registered, has an NCT to August 2024 and is taxed.
The exterior paintwork is “Blue Black Metallic” and the colour code DB199. The paint is in amazing condition and has just been fully detailed. Both front and rear bumpers are unmarked. The wheels have been refurbished and Dunlop tyres fitted all round.
The soft top operates perfectly and the fabric and rear plastic windows are all excellent. The car also comes with a hard top which is unmarked and a new headlining has been fitted. The mushroom leather interior is also in great condition, with only very slight and normal wear on the drivers bolster. All interior electrics work correctly.
This R129 was imported from the UK and the history folder contains Mot’s and service invoices from 1999 to 2022. It is now showing 69,000 miles and at 60,500 a new exhaust system and 4 brake discs were fitted.
On the open road the car drives beautifully. As you’d expect from a Mercedes of this era, the exceptional build quality means there are no rattles or squeaks. The car starts instantly from hot or cold and all gear changes are smooth.
The Mercedes-Benz SL of all generations is iconic. It’s the epitome of a stylish and well engineered cabriolet motoring. This R129 model is not just great value, it’s a classic of the future.
