Mercedes-Benz 250D
Year: 1992
Miles: 19,100
Exterior: Arctic White (147)
Interior: Grey Fabric (068)
This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 250D is simply stunning. It’s quite possibly one of a kind, having travelled only 19,200 miles, at the hands of its two owners. All aspects of this W124 are almost factory fresh, from the Arctic White paintwork and grey check interior, to the smooth and effortless way it handles itself on the open road. It actually still wears the original tyres it left the factory with, which confirms the mileage but should be replaced, if the new owner intends to use the car regularly.
The exterior is finished in Arctic White (147) over Sato Grey (738) “Sacco” panels and the paintwork is in excellent condition with a deep gloss finish all round. The panel gaps are all even and generally speaking there are almost no perceivable age related marks. The bumper corners are unscathed and the chromes have a mirror-like reflection and show no signs of corrosion. The rear screen glass is clear and free of any signs of delamination.
It’s powered by the legendary M602 diesel, 5 cylinder engine. It has a displacement of 2,497cc and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission transmission. Equipment includes ABS, an electric sunroof with tilt function, 4 electric windows, walnut trim, and original and unmarked 15″ hub caps.
The correct factory 15″ steel wheels and wheel trims are fitted and wear a matching set of factory fitted Michelin MXL tyres measuring 195/65 on all four corners. A matching spare wheel and tyre is stored in the boot. A complete tool kit in a sealed and unopened plastic bag and jack is also present and appears to be unused.
The front seats are upholstered in Grey Fabric (068) with grey matching carpets and a contrasting black upper dash and steering wheel. Also supplied are original Mercedes rubber floor mats. Walnut wood veneers accent the dashboard, centre console, and door panels. Interior comforts include four electric windows and a passenger wing mirror, central locking and a tilt / slide sunroof.
The four spoke steering wheel frames a 125 mph speedometer and a 6k rpm rev counter with an integrated clock, along with gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and instant fuel economy. The six-digit odometer shows 19,100 miles.
The 2.5 litre M602, 5 cylinder engine was factory rated at 89 horsepower. This provides adequate power for modern driving, it's matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox that can be “worked” easily. This engine was a favourite of taxi drivers all over the world because of its reliability, economy and ability to cover vast distances.
The underside, engine bay and unseen areas of this W124 are in remarkable condition with little or no evidence of age related corrosion, in fact the factory applied wax protection is still visible. This car has clearly led a sheltered life and should not be confused with so many tired cars on the market.
The Mercedes W124 has legendary status for a reason. It’s one of the best built, usable and easily maintained models built by Daimler Benz and parts availability is excellent. On the road it offers refinement and comfort that is better than many modern cars. In the right hands this 250D will cover 1 million miles like so many others did.
